So you wanna be a hipster?  Do you really think you have what it takes?  With this informative four step guide, you can easily transform your drab, boring lifestyle into that of a funky, trendy, ultra hipster!  It's really easy to do.. By simply switching up your choice of music, style, attitude, and social status, you can easily become the "trend-setter" you've always wanted to be!  This brief article will provide in depth instructions to ensure your transformation and make you a part of the "in-crowd"... Let's go!

Music

The first change to make is in your choice of music... Elvis, Elton John, and the Beatles are out and your local indie band is in!  There is no hipper style of music than music from your local indie band!  Just find 2 or 3 local bands and "rock-out" to their latest releases and iTunes tracks.  Even better... Play an instrument yourself!  Take some music lessons, perhaps guitar, and start performing in your local coffee shop or cafe!  Don't know what song to sing or play?  Just do a cover of a popular indie song and give it your own "twist"! Remember, main stream music is off limits...  Why?  Hipsters aren't followers, their leaders! So hit the streets and find out which local bands are "making the most noise" in the clubs and local hang-out spots!  Music... Check!  Next, you need S-T-Y-L-E...

S-T-Y-L-E

Some people have it and some people don't.... S-T-Y-L-E spells style! Right now you don't have it... So keep reading.  It's time to drop the grandpa pants and the sweater from the 70's... Skinny jeans, ironic T-shirts, and hipster glasses are all the rage!  Many of these items can be picked up at your local second-hand shop.  Hipsters don't shop department store labels... Why?  Labels are over-rated!  Plus, they're super expensive, particularly when compared to being able to buy 3 or 4 similar items for less elsewhere! Oh yea... Guys, rock your mustache!  Not only do the ladies digg it, but it'll make you look mysterious and somewhat of a "renaissance man"! Breaking the rules of banning mainstream shopping... Anything Apple is definitely in!  So go "cop" an Apple iPod, laptop, or iPhone.  Steve Jobs and the crew will thank you!  OK, so you've got S-T-Y-L-E, but you need some attitude...

Attitude

Being a "true" hipster is all about attitude.  Either you've got it or you don't..  Hipsters are leaders and not followers...  So stop following the "mainstream" and start setting your own trends and styles!  Hipsters rebel against the "big corporations" and "big business" ideas and tend to quickly reject and critic ideas that go against what they believe.  In other words, they aren't afraid to stand up for what they believe, particularly when it involves social, political, and human rights issues.  Hipsters have an almost "I don't care" attitude, meaning that hipsters don't conform to the world they've been presented but rather create the world in which they wish to live.  Got it? So get some attitude.. Get some backbone... Fast!  Now that you're in the "know", it's time to up your "social status"!

Social Status

Get out of the house! Go get some hipster friends.  Listen, this is easier said than done.  Hook up with some other hipsters from Facebook or any other social network that harbors people with your same likes and interests.  However, don't stay online!  You can easily meet up with other hipsters locally at trendy, local concerts, arts festivals, and the like, but "putting" yourself out there is the first step! Just start by sitting in on a local garage band rehearsal...  Not only is it the "in thing" to do, but you're sure to find other hipsters in the "mix"!

Well, friend that's it!  Listen, don't make it any harder than it has to be...  Just follow these quick tips and you'll be well on your way to becoming the coolest hipster on the block!  Just start by changing your choice of music and your style and everything else will come naturally... Most importantly, never forget to be yourself!  Why?  There's only one of you and the world doesn't need any duplicates... You're a hipster.
